The first answer that business people generally will give when asked why they are in business is that they need to make money to pay the bills. Although this is a correct answer, it is not the reason most people are in business. Anyone listening to the cable news channels could think that the world is falling apart and everyone is surrounded by terrible people who want to do nothing but take advantage of them. It’s true that you need to be careful who you surround yourself with because there are just many people out there who are looking to take advantage of you. But it has been my experience over the years that the vast majority of business people are just good family people trying to make a living but doing much more without realizing it.
Business people today are the engine of the economy.
Think about it. It’s not the government that makes the economy work. The government has spent vast sums of money and claims they are the reason there are some bright spots in the economy. But it’s really you, the hard working business person that makes it work. If we look even deeper, we can see that most people care about the people they work with. They are not just providing jobs but because of their creativity and hard work and risking everything people get to live in houses that they own, send their children to college and have a few of the nicer things in life.
Business is not just about making money. It’s actually a higher calling to help the world and the people in it. Think about how many community service projects business people pay for. How much money business people donate to charities.
