Although business people may say the words, usually they are not as willing to put in the time or to do the work necessary to attain a high degree of success.
You need knowledge, understanding plus will – drive – determination.
The following is a guideline to help any business person no matter what business they may be in. This guideline is not something you can look at or glance over one time and be done with it. Don’t assume you really know and understand each point.
It is a study of what is necessary to attain desired business success. You will not be able to do all these things at one time. It will take work, patience, awareness and determination to accomplish.
The question any business person has to ask themselves is:
What effort am I will to put forth consistently to get the success I am looking for?
Here are the thoughts on business:
- Know your business.
- Know your customer.
- Know your product or service.
- Know what additions to make to the product or service; but also, what to subtract.
- Know what skills you need to lead the company.
- Know what skills each and every employee needs.
- Be a people person. Remember: Your business is about people. You just happen to offer a particular product or service.
- Know the skill set of the employees. What does each employee excel at?
- Know what the employees are not good at.
- Train and motivate all employees to acquire new skills.
- Have a financial statement prepared on a planned, regular basis.
- Know how to read the company’s financial statement.
- Have a weekly action plan for you, the business, the employees.
- Treat people as you would want to be treated.
- Spend thirty minutes to one hour every day thinking about your business.
- Every day when you go to your workplace, find the problem the business is experiencing and begin solving it as quickly as possible.
- Be optimistic. If you are negative the negativity will permeate the company. Negativity does not bring success.
I have concluded throughout my years of business experience that education is important but it depends on the type of education. Most CEOs and business owners who may have whatever level of educational degree, never really utilize the particular degree to its fullest.
Business is a lifelong study of how business works, the understanding of company product and service, the employees, the customers and the marketplace. The business environment is always changing. You must be aware as a business person as to how to meet those changes and match them up with your customers to remain relevant.
The only thing stopping you from doing this is your determination to succeed. Often I hear of incredible stories where the person said: I just never gave up. That’s what you need to do too.
Many obstacles will be put in your way. Successful business people find solutions to take on the challenge of resolving anything that comes their way in order for the company to succeed.
