Have you visited the hall of fame for football, baseball or even rock ‘n’ roll? There are many other hall of fame museums too numerous to mention here. There should be a hall of fame specifically for business. Not just for success but also for mistakes. Mistakes that lead to MORE success. Famous entrepreneurs such as Thomas Edison (the lightbulb) and Henry Ford (the assembly line automobile), Bill Gates (Microsoft and the personal computer) or Steve Jobs (Apple and iPhone mobile smartphone), certainly are excellent examples of how business mistakes can be turned into business success; so much so, it can be life-changing for others.
Think for a moment:
What if Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Bill Gates or Steve Jobs had given up on their ideas due to their mistakes or failures?
The world may be a very different place today. It would have rewritten history.
If you talk to any successful CEO, president or business owner, ask what mistakes they made throughout the years of operating a business. I am certain you will be given a long list of things they did that were not the wisest decisions they ever made. The reason they are successful is although they made many mistakes, they made more right decisions than wrong decisions over the years. They learned from their mistakes and didn’t make the same mistakes again.
Throughout the history of humanity not much has really changed. Technology has changed. Health care has vastly improved. There are many conveniences such as with kitchen appliances including ovens, food processors, refrigerators and dishwashers which make our lives easier. Better built houses and roads, for example But the basic needs and wants of people have never changed.
The mistakes business people make never change. If you study the mistakes CEOs, presidents and business owners have made you would be hard pressed to find something new and original.
If you really want to be successful you need to do many things right. But if you are not making mistakes then you are not doing enough in your business and may be playing it too safe, too cautious which could actually be a mistake in itself.
Just be careful not to make the one big mistake that costs you your business.
Ask yourself:
- Are you afraid to take chances, small or large, with your business on a daily basis?
- Have you become less willing to take chances to move your business forward for any particular reason including those past business mistakes?
If so, you are missing out on countless business opportunities for success.
To further your success you sit down and make a list of every mistake that you’ve made in running your business. Then talk to your trusted business associates. Ask what business mistakes they have made and what they would do differently. You may be surprised at the answers.
If from your mistakes you understand what not to do in your business and come up with solutions that effectively work then the path to business success will be much easier and rewarding.
You are in business to, yes, make a profit but also to make the world a better place.
Don’t let anything hold you back from success!
Now… Are you ready to have your name displayed at the business hall of fame?
To your success!
