Recently, I visited the car dealer for service. While I was waiting for the car, I stepped into the showroom. As I looked around at the new cars I noticed a middle-aged man shining a salesman’s shoes. I stood off in the distance watching with great interest. I was impressed but also surprised by this man’s ingenuity of creating a job for himself. He used good ol’ American know-how to create a business that worked for him.
In the car dealer’s waiting room I had a chance to speak with the shoeshine man. I discovered a person who was obviously from another country and didn’t speak the English language well. In our conversation I told him how much I admired his work ethic. He told me that he couldn’t find a job so he created a business of shining shoes to make a living. He had a wad of cash in his pocket from the day’s business so he must be doing well.
My wish for him is that not only he makes a decent living from shining shoes but continues to live the American business dream. My other wish for him is that as a business person he continues to grow.
Isn’t it amazing this guy isn’t taking anything from the government? That he has pride in what he does? He is a prime example of a hard working person that makes this country great.
We all need to take an example from this man who shines shoes for a living. Do not let anyone or anything keep you from being successful, and to live the American business dream.
This man had the same attitude my grandparents had when they came to this country back in the early 1900s. They did whatever they had to do to make a living. No complaining. They were grateful just to live in this great country.
Let’s keep the entrepreneurial spirit alive within ourselves.
