In conversations with CEOs, presidents and business owners the word “change” often comes up. There is a sense of something in the business needs to change. But yet don’t know what kind of specific change is necessary or what would work best. The question is: How does change affect your business?

These business people generally know something isn’t right in their business and sense they need to change something.
When business people say they want change, they need to consider what that really means before they go about changing things at the company.
Some points to consider:
Change for the sake of change is not a good thing. Why are you making the change? Are you making a change for the better or a change for the worse?
Sometimes you don’t need to make big changes in your business. All you need to do is tweak a few things and everything aligns itself for more business success.
Other times it’s not change you need to make, it’s complete overhaul.
You need to think through this completely undefined word called – change – that has been brought to the forefront in today’s world. Without “change” being clearly defined you are leading your business on an unknown path.
In business:
- Know where you are going
- What you want to specifically accomplish
- Consider what the calculated risks may be
- Strategise about any unintended consequences
- Think through how to get to where you want to be with the change you are considering for your business.
If you change just for the sake of change, without knowing what that fully means, chances are you will make the wrong business decisions.
Remember: Know what change means in your business. Know how change affects your business.
