Building Momentum In Your Business

Your business is not static. Your business is always in motion. Your business either moves forward or it moves backward. But it doesn’t stand still. Although, at times, it may be difficult to move the business forward, it is still possible. In fact, very possible. All you need is something called: Momentum.

For example, visualize a big oil tanker out on the ocean. When the captain of the oil tanker wants to stop the vessel from moving forward the engines are put in reverse. It takes at least one mile to stop the tanker.

Another example is in professional sports. At any given time during a game such as baseball, football, hockey or even basketball, the sports commentator will talk about how the momentum of the game has shifted. In other words, one team had the advantage but then something happens, a particular play or other event fires up the team that didn’t have the advantage and now they are on the move. The momentum of the game has suddenly changed and the competition has an opportunity to win.

Momentum is a very important concept in your business.

The law of physics says that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. For instance, if you push a drinking glass across the table the energy that was created by you pushing the glass will move the glass.

Now take any of the above examples and instead of it being an oil tanker, a sports team or a drinking glass, think about your business. If you want your business to prosper you need to create the positive energy in order to move your business forward. To get your business to where YOU want it to be.

Although you may not see the results the first day you try it, if day after day:

  • you’re a positive influence
  • you inspire employees and customers
  • motivate your sales force
  • bring value to your customers and prospects

… then you will see big changes in your business.

On the other hand, if you come to work:

  • depressed,
  • with a bad attitude,
  • don’t motivate employees
  • aren’t providing excellent customer service and products

… then you will see the negative business results.

It’s somewhat similar to the snowball effect. The snowball is small at the top of the hill, but as it rolls down the hill, it gets bigger and bigger. So too with positive energy. It starts small and then builds and builds into something bigger and bigger and more positive.

The same can happen with negativity. It can spread quickly except rather than similar to the snowball effect, think of an uncontrolled wildfire spreading through your company. The results would spell disaster to your business.

You need daily, consistent positive momentum to move your business forward.

Your business never has to feel like it’s stuck or not moving forward. To gain the proper momentum for your business will require you, the CEO, president or business owner, to take the lead, set the example, in order to succeed and prosper.

Which way do you want business momentum to build at your company?

Forward or backward? Like a snowball or like a wildfire? Your choice.
