How Many “Yes” People Are In Your Business?

People who work in the corporate world prefer to surround themselves with a certain type of employee.  That employee is someone who is not as intelligent as they are; nor do they generally have the experience or credentials and poses absolutely no threat to stealing their job or putting them in a bad light.  Corporate people also like to surround themselves with “yes” people – people who will give them a consensus and support on every idea they have.  Giving them absolutely no resistance and saying “yes” to everything.

In an entrepreneurial business we want to hire the smartest people we can.  If they are more intelligent than the CEO, company president or business owner, all the better.  After all, it’s your business.  Your employees can’t take the business from you and they can’t get promoted into your job.

As a CEO, company president or business owner, you also want to surround yourself with people who aren’t afraid to oppose your ideas, respectfully fight with you tooth and nail if they have a different opinion or believe they have a better idea than yours which they can support with factual information.  Don’t be afraid to engage in intelligent debate when you have two people disagreeing with each other, each stating their point of view respectfully.  You can come up with a far better solution than if you were surrounded by “yes” people.
