The Business Of Health Care In America

I watched President Obama’s news conference on Wednesday evening regarding implementing a new plan for health care in the United States.  I listened to what he had to say.  When he was done I had no more information than when he started.

It was confirmed to me that it wasn’t just me.  The commentators on Fox News were commenting that he said nothing.  There were no details.  So I switched over to MSNBC.  Their take was similar.

The President is trying to push a health care bill through with absolutely no details as to how it is going to work and who is going to pay for it.  And what politician is going to read all 1000+ pages of what is currently being proposed?  This is like déjà vu.  Didn’t we see this happen with the stimulus package?  Why is something so big and so important to the American public as health care being rushed through Congress?  If we have waited this long for new health care legislation, isn’t it worth the wait to get it right rather than just jam something down each citizen’s throat?!

Imagine, Mr./Ms. Business Person, walking into your bank to borrow money for your business and when the banker asks you for your business plan, you tell the banker you haven’t decided on one yet but you’re in a hurry and need the money now before the opportunity passes you by.  You don’t know how much money you need, you don’t know what you are going to do with the money and you don’t know when you are going to repay it.  Just imagine what your banker would to say to you.

Social Security is in crisis.  Medicare is going broke.  Maybe the government should straighten out these two programs before they commit the country to trillions of more dollars in debt.

I want everyone to have the best possible health care that exists.  But who is going to pay for it?  And is this plan for health care that President Obama wants truly going to make health care in this country better?  Think twice, think over and over again, before you endorse any legislation that will radically change health care in the years to come.  Your life or that of someone you care about may be directly affected by the changes that right now are in this massive bill that we have no specific details on.

Which brings to mind another question.  Why do we have to do everything at once?  You know what happens when you try to do too many things all at the same time.  Nothing is really done well; nor is it well thought out.  Unintended consequences result.

When you take the money from small business, people making over $250,000 per year, you destroy their business.  That $250,000 on the tax return in profit is not take home pay.  Even after you take the taxes out some of that money has to go to inventory, operating capital or expanding the business.  What are these politicians thinking?!

The main priority right now and till further notice should be the economy.  After Washington D.C. gets the economy back on track then deal with health care and any other major issue.  Maybe by then we will have a better understanding of what really needs to change.

Health care is important to the future of the country.  We need to start electing politicians who have some idea of the reality of life and vote for what the people truly want and need.

The United States was founded on the governing principle of being for the people, by the people.  When did it change?
