Somehow You Have To Lose To Win In Your Business
In business and life, so much of what you do is perspective. When things are going well, when the money is flowing in, and you are so busy that you don’t have time to think, it’s human nature to tend not to change anything. But when you don’t change anything you also don’t grow as a business person. You pretty much stay stagnant. And so does your business even though, at the moment, you may think things are moving along at a productive, profitable pace. You just feel good, not as stressed or worried about the business. But this comfort zone can also give you a false sense of security because you may not be looking at or thinking about your business in ways that you should. And that is why sometimes you have to lose in order to win in your business.
A business loss can be anything including the loss of a valuable or key employee. It can also be losing a long time, major account or customer that leaves a sizeable dent in your sales and profits. It could also be an unforeseen catastrophe such as a flood or a fire or major weather event. It can be simply making a bad business decision or even buying the wrong equipment or making the wrong marketing choices. And it can be from a major economic downturn like being experienced now nationally and globally with all its volatile twists, turns and uncertainty.
Although the Great Recession and the current economy has caused great pain to the majority of the business people and a large percentage of the population, this is also a time of incredible personal and business growth. It’s a time to re-define. To re-evaluate. To re-assess. To re-invent. To improve in ways never thought possible. If you have survived to this point it is because you were willing to adapt and to change, in some way, with both the business and your thinking.
There is more to come, more changes, with the economy and how business is done. The challenging, difficult times are certainly not over. You can use these uncertain, changing times to think through your life and your business and make positive changes that will benefit you and your business for years to come. From loss can come real success.
