Keeping up with current business information is important for any business person. Every night I’m on the internet reading or watching video about what is happening in the business world as well as staying up-to-date with current events.  A few nights ago, while on the internet, a thought totally unrelated to business popped into my head.  I wondered if there was a better technique to shave my face in the morning.  So I Googled the keyword phrase, “shaving techniques”.  I have no idea why the words, “shaving techniques” thought went through my head but instantly I was able to find information to answer my question.

What a magnificent incredibly useful tool the internet is!  In days long gone by, people would buy encyclopedias for their children to give them the information they needed to forward their education.  But the information available on the internet is so much more than any one could put into a set of books.  If you want to know about the best computer or smart phone to buy, the interview questions to ask when hiring, information on sales, marketing, cold calling and any other business subject you can think of.  It’s all there for you.  Just a few keystrokes away.

Then I started wondering about how many business people truly don’t use the internet to their best advantage.  It’s no longer good enough to own a business and just show up for work.  There are a multitude of business related questions that need answers.  The internet is a vast accumulation of knowledge at your fingertips.  Use it every single business day.  Not just for email, news headlines or the latest sports scores but to further your business knowledge.  The one caution that goes along with the internet is to make sure you know the source of the information.  Just as there is an incredible amount of useful information there is also an incredible amount of inaccurate information.
