Thank You, Massachusetts!

The education system today doesn’t seem to put the emphasis on history of the United States as it once did.  Nor is history in the schools today taught in an objective, factual manner.  The younger generation, for the most part, really don’t know their history.  Most people have only have a very basic knowledge of how this great country was formed and the incredible story that lays the foundation of our guiding principles.  Many have no idea the importance that the state of Massachusetts had in forming this country.  And they may not be familiar with the Battle of Bunker Hill.  Or the “shot heard around the world” in the battle of Concord made famous in the Ralph Waldo Emerson poem, Concord Hymn.  Last night, once again,  Massachusetts played a significant part in the country’s history and perhaps an even greater role to come in getting this country back on track.  History does repeat itself.  Contrary to any media spin, last night was a referedum on health care, cap and trade, and the general direction the Democratic leadership in Washington is trying to take the country.  Even though the polls tell us that the vast majority of people are very concerned about the direction of the country, the politicians have chosen not to listen to the people and instead just push forward against the will of the constituents.  But last night, the people spoke with their votes.  That one senator in Massachusetts that was elected last night helps to restore the balance of power in Congress.  The Democrats no longer have the sixty votes they need to ram through whatever legislation they choose to.  No one party, whether Democrat or Republican, should have the power to exert its will on the citizens of this country.  We should all be working towards responsible compromise and creating legislation that is good and viable for the citizens of this country over the long term.  Government needs to get out of the way.  Big government is not the answer.  The United States was created “by the people and for the people”.  Last night also demonstrated something else – not only that your vote does count but that one person can make all the difference.  As a CEO, president or business owner, just remember that every day as you run your business know that you too are making a difference.  Let your voice be heard.  Loud and clear.
